Brand Identity for a Wrought Iron Craftsman

Artistic and handcrafted wrought ironwork

REQUEST

The activity here is the restyling logo of a previous one drawed on paper from the client.
“Il mio ferro battuto” is an artisan who creates wrought iron handicrafts and art works also combined with other materials such as stone and wood. Tailored candelabras, wine racks, and many other wrought iron and artistic works are created by adopting techniques such as the use of the forge and iron working. The artist turned to me to create the brand identity and to redesign the existing logo.

The craftsman approached me with an existing logo concept that needed to be developed into a more professional and coherent visual identity. This project therefore included the logo redesign, corporate identity design, print materials and development of a dedicated website to present the collection of works.

Logo Concept

The final logo was developed around the Artist’s initial letters, P and C – Pietro Campagna, transforming them into a symbol strongly connected with craftsmanship and traditional wrought ironworking.

The graphic element incorporates stylized references to some of the tools traditionally associated with the craft, including forge tongs, hammer and anvil. Rather than simply using a generic wrought iron icon, the goal was to create a distinctive mark capable of communicating the manual nature and tradition of this ancient craft.

The typeface was also selected to reinforce this perception, creating a visual connection with the traditional origins of the profession.

The result combines personal initials, traditional craftsmanship and references to the tools of the trade in a compact visual mark that can also work effectively at smaller sizes.

Color Palette

Pure black was selected as the main brand color to give the mark an elegant, strong and contemporary appearance. The logo was also developed in a negative version for use on different backgrounds, materials and applications.

Corporate Identity and Communication Materials

The logo redesign was extended into a broader visual identity covering several materials used in the day-to-day communication of the business. The project included the design of letterhead, invoice template, business card, notepad and promotional materials, all developed to maintain visual consistency with the new logo. In conclusion, the objective was to ensure that even everyday business materials contributed to a professional and recognizable brand image.

Letterhead and Invoice Template Design

The new letterhead and invoice template were designed to create greater consistency between the administrative documents and the visual identity. The layouts maintain a clean structure while incorporating elements of the brand, making these documents an integral part of the overall identity system. This work is part of my print materials and brochure portfolio.

Business Card Design

The new business card was designed in a vertical format, using a simple and recognizable composition. The layout reflects the character of the new logo and gives greater visual importance to the brand while keeping the contact information clear and easy to read.

Logo Application on T-Shirt

To demonstrate how the redesigned logo could work in a real-world context, several applications were also developed on different types of materials. The T-shirt application provides an example of how the logo can be used beyond traditional corporate stationery and demonstrates the readability of the symbol on a textile surface.

Notepad and Poster Design

The visual identity was also extended to everyday and promotional materials. A branded notepad was designed as a practical communication item to be given to clients, together with posters created for a public exhibition. Both applications maintain a direct visual relationship with the logo and the identity developed for the craftsman.

More Than a Simple Logo Redesign

This project went considerably beyond a simple logo redesign. The new visual identity was accompanied by a complete digital communication project, including the development of a customized website designed as an online catalog of the craftsman’s work. The website was developed with a dedicated HTML layout created specifically for the project, allowing the different categories of wrought iron works to be presented through a genuine digital gallery.

Web Design and Online Gallery

First of all, the website was conceived primarily as an online gallery showcasing the wrought iron collection. Its structure organizes the different works by category and presents them through large images, giving the visual content a central role. The HTML layout was developed specifically for the project, with a responsive structure designed to adapt to different screen sizes and devices. The website design connects the different elements of the project, creating a consistent relationship between logo, photography, navigation and presentation of the handcrafted products. This project is part of my professional website portfolio.
