What does an identity designer do?

An Identity Designer Freelance transforms the characteristics of a company into practical visual tools designed for everyday communication.

The work may begin with the creation of a new logo or the restyling of an existing identity. Then the project is applied to the materials the business actually needs, such as brochures, presentations, packaging, business cards, websites, digital tools and promotional materials. The identity designer’s role is not to create disconnected graphic elements, but to coordinate each application so that the company maintains a recognizable, functional image that is suitable for its audience. Design choices also vary according to the different industries I have worked with, as every market requires a specific style and visual language.

A startup may need to build its image from the ground up, while an established company may require a logo restyling, a website update or a redesign of its commercial materials.

The project is defined according to the company’s actual requirements, avoiding unnecessary materials and focusing on the applications that are genuinely useful. You can explore the different activities on the page dedicated to my graphic design services.

Logo design. Before and after.

When restyling a logo, it is important to understand which elements should be retained and which need to be simplified, updated or made more legible.

The before-and-after comparison shows how a targeted redesign can make a logo more modern, balanced and easier to use without losing its connection with the company’s original identity.

Design of brochure. Before and after.

Redesigning a brochure is not simply about choosing new colors or images. The information must be reorganized, the content hierarchy improved and the reader guided toward the most important messages.

The new design presents products and services in a clearer, more professional and immediate way, while maintaining visual consistency with the logo and the company’s other materials.

Design of websites. Before and after.

An outdated or unclear website can weaken the perception of the entire company, even when the products and services offered are of high quality.

The redesign improves structure, navigation, readability and content presentation, creating a more modern experience suitable for different devices. The website therefore becomes a natural extension of the identity developed for printed materials.

Consistency Across Printed and Digital Materials

Once the logo, colors and typography have been defined, the identity designer’s work continues by applying the visual identity across different communication tools.

Brochures, presentations, packaging, websites and promotional materials should all feel like part of the same system, even when they are created at different times or used across very different formats.

As a freelance identity designer, I adapt each element to the requirements of the individual medium while maintaining a recognizable style, consistent proportions and a coherent visual language.

This allows the company to communicate consistently both online and offline, avoiding the impression that each material belongs to a different brand.

What is identity design?

Identity design concerns the development of the elements through which a company presents itself and becomes recognizable. The logo is the starting point, while colors, typography, images and applications extend the identity across different communication tools.

Logo Usage Manual

Upon request, I create a PDF document containing the rules required to use the professional logo correctly and maintain consistency across all its applications. The manual may include logo variations, color palette, typography, proportions, clear space, minimum sizes and examples of use on different backgrounds and formats.

This document becomes a practical reference for collaborators, printers, developers and external partners, reducing the risk of incorrect or inconsistent applications.

You can learn more about the contents of professional logo guidelines on the dedicated page.
